Every Book a World Turns One! + GIVEAWAY

1st Blogiversary

Gaaah! My blogiversary snuck up on me so fast.

It’s incredible to think that just this time last year WordPress was a complete and utter mystery to me, and that I was blindly and haphazardly messing with things to try to get them to do what I wanted. Only a few months out I still felt unsure in so many blogging things.

While I still learn new things here and there, it’s an amazing feeling to finally feel in my element on my blog. Having my own little corner in the blogosphere where I feel completely at home and able to express myself is invaluable to me, and even then it’s only the half of it.

When I was taking my first steps into starting my blog — buying my domain name, choosing a hosting service, writing my first post (a review of a not-so stellar book, don’t ask me why I didn’t start with some sort of intro post!) — I couldn’t help but feel kind of alone. No one around me at home knew anything about blogging, and I knew no one in the blogosphere, either. I couldn’t have imagined all the ways in which other bloggers in the book blogging community have made such a difference in my blogging experience. I get so inspired reading other bloggers’ posts, I absolutely light up every time I read a comment on my blog, and I get the warm fuzzies inside whenever I get help/advice from bloggers on Twitter. A giant hug goes out to all of you who make the book blogging community such a special place! <3

Book blogging is one of the things I feel most genuinely and truly passionate about in my life; when everything else feels like it’s going wrong, or I feel like I’m pointlessly drowning in schoolwork, it only takes a little reading and/or blogging to turn my day around and get a sort of buzz from doing what I love so much. It’s as if sometimes my thoughts and emotions are all over the place like the needle of a broken compass, constantly spinning around, and all it takes is reading for pleasure/blogging to stop the spinning and focus my thoughts and just kind of find a sort of happy place that feels meaningful to me. There’s nothing like the bookish energy that keeps me racing through the pages of a novel late at night, or fangirling over characters, or getting my creative juices flowing to write a blog post. Book blogging has allowed my love of reading to flourish and now I couldn’t imagine my life without it. 🙂

Whew. Now that I have bared my (bookish) heart and soul, I want to introduce the fun part of this post — my GIVEAWAY!

To celebrate my first blogiversary, I’m giving away two prizes that have to do with my blog theme.

The first is a hardcover copy of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. Why exactly? Though it’s an Adult novel (written by a YA author), it weaves an unforgettable and deeply touching tale, complete with enough literary references, bookstores, and bookish philosophy for any bibliophile to love. And if you haven’t read my About This Blog page before, it also inspired my blog title. 🙂 Check it out!

The second prize is a mug from Bookworm Boutique’s Society6 shop (that also has other really awesome stuff!) that reads “The World Belongs to Those Who Read.” I thought it fit pretty well with my theme, and who doesn’t want a nice bookish mug for a cup of tea (or anything else!) while they read?

There will be 2 winners, and each winner will receive 1 prize; the 1st winner will receive the book, and the 2nd the mug. It is an INTERNATIONAL giveaway, I want the chance for any of my lovely followers to win 🙂 The giveaway will run for 3 weeks. Winners will be contacted after the contest is finished, and will have 48 hours to respond with their address. If there is no response, a new winner will be chosen. May the odds be ever in your favor!

  • OMG, LINA, PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR BEING SO HELLA LATE!!! I am kicking myself so hard right now. D: But my horridness aside… HAPPY BELATED BLOGOVERSARY!!! *all the confetti and books and beautiful things for a beautiful person like you* My gosh, has it been a year already? Next thing we know, we’ll be celebrating your second anniversary!

It’s so great to see how far you’ve come, and with minimal help when you first started out, too! It was the same for me, but maybe less frightening, because I started out with Blogger and it wasn’t until I was very used to blogging that I switched over to WP. Buying the domain and hosting were terrifying experiences though. I was so afraid I would mess up and then waste all the money I’d spent, haha. xD But yaaaass, the blogging community is awesome. It is strange that I’ve grown so close to certain people in this place than the people I know in real life!

Congratulations once again, girl! I really enjoy all our fangirling and conversations (though there aren’t many of them right now… WE NEED TO TALK MORE), so here’s to many more years of happy blogging! <333

    • THANKS! 😀 Your comments always make my day Meg! (And now I’m imagining myself drowning in confetti and books, aka best blogiversary ever!!) So much has happened in a year but at the same time it went so fast.

I barely knew what I was doing on GoDaddy.com, but thank goodness it all turned out alright! One of my friends is thinking of starting a blog about classics-to-movie adaptations, and I so desperately want to help her so she doesn’t have to flounder for a few months.

I don’t know what I’d do without the book blogging community. Sometimes I wonder how people IRL can go about not loving books/reading like all of us do! Even my sister that reads as much as I do isn’t always willing to hear me go on and on about books.

I love our talks too, and YES WE NEED MORE! <3 *Toasts to the lovely years of blogging we have ahead of us*

  • Oh my, congratulations! I don’t know how I missed this, but HUGE congrats! I love the way you described what book blogging means to you, I couldn’t agree more! I am so glad you found it too 🙂 Hoping for many, many more blogoversaries to come!

  • Congrats on your first blogiversary!! 😀 I could relate so much to your initial lostness, and how everything gets easier with the help of some really sweet bloggers. Pretty amazing how you chose your domain and hosting service within the year, that is some dedication. Hope your blog continues to grow and I’m glad to be a new regular reader now!

    • Aww, thanks! 😀 Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who struggled at the beginning even if it felt like it sometimes. I did the domain and hosting all at the beginning, because I thought it would be better in the long run to have it from the get-go — but it didn’t exactly make it easy to start out with, haha! I’m happy to have you as a new reader :))

  • Congratulations on your 1 year blogiversary! Time certainly does fly by. Lovely blog by the way. 🙂
